YEST-IN and Sustainable Development Goals
Poverty results from high rate of unemployment due to the fact that many youths relies on the government to provide them with job opportunities forgetting that they can create their own jobs and be their own boss. The youth view the SDGs as a means to discover their talents, purpose, skills, follow their careers and create jobs for themselves thereby saying no to poverty.
YEST-IN brings agriculturalist and technologist together to grow these products using innovative schemes thereby boosting production and bringing hunger to nil. Biologists trace how diseases are transmitted and to make life less disease infected while technologist bring out innovative ways of getting rid of garbage using sensor networks there by providing good health and well-being to the people. Youths are to engage in more practicality than theory thereby bridging the gap between theory and practical’s. Youth’s viewpoint matches with the SDGs, which shows that the country educational system needs a complete change to implement more practicality than theory rather than the other way round to achieve quality education. Women are to be fully involve in the development process to enforce gender balance. Youths are to be involve in the installation of affordable and clean energy sources such as solar panels and wind panels. The communal spirit that will be develop among the individuals will bring justice, peace, happiness, love and development of the country.
Factors triggering Innovation through Science and Technology.
There are many factors and actors triggering technology and innovation in the economy. Innovation as an engine of economic growth and national welfare results from firms, individuals, universities, state-supported researches and the efforts of the civil society or non-governmental organizations (NGOs). For this reason, it is very important to design a national innovation system to provide an environment for economic agents to create and to produce new technologies and innovations.
YEST-IN implements a mesh network to engage all stake holders in development.
The way forward.
Science and Technology Policy in tandem (YEST-IN) has to be designed to resolve practically the long term disconnect between sociopolitical and economic planning. The policy is to evolve a new world that will build a large, strong, diversified, sustainable and competitive economy that guarantees a high standard of living and quality of life to its people.
Specifically, it should be designed to provide a strong platform for science, technology and innovation commitment with the economic transformation that is people centered.
It is thus, obvious that if Cameroon, given its natural endowments, is to successfully change its economy and takes her rightful place in the comity of nations, science and technology and its integration in national socio-economic growth processes must be accorded the top-most priority.
The government has to encourage the establishment and strengthening of organizations, institutions and structures for science and technology development to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge to adapt, utilize, replicate and diffuse technologies for the growth of small and medium size enterprises (SMEs), agricultural development, food security, power generation and poverty alleviation. She has to encourage and promote the creation of innovative enterprises employing Cameroon’s local knowledge and technology by supporting mechanisms to harness, promote, commercialize and diffuse domestically developed technologies for the production of world competitive goods and services that hugely employed Cameroon’s raw materials.
Apparently, there is need to popularize and inculcate scientific and technological culture in Cameroonians for rapid socio-political and economic changes. The imperatives of self sufficiency and world competitiveness desired growth of national capability in science and technology to stimulate inventions and generate innovations for sustainable development.
There is need to develop capacity and capability in technology transfer processes in order to stimulate rapid technological and industrial development. Globalization drives new technologies, products and processes across national boundaries. Moreover, there is a need for devotion to quality and international standards in carrying out scientific, industrial and commercial activities for global competitiveness. For the policy to achieve the aspired impact, there is need to evolve reliable and sustainable funding frameworks from the government, private sector and development partners.
YEST-IN take its fate into her hands, build confidence in her teams, and build a culture of discovery, hard work and public spiritedness. Adapt, obtain and embody technologies from any corner of the globe for the good of the country, and innovate forcefully to develop new opportunities in order to reconstruct the swiftly changing sociopolitical and economic global landscape to the favor of her country using science and technology.
